San Francisco, CA – Maximo Londonio, a Filipino green card holder, has been released from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody following a successful petition to terminate deportation proceedings.
The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco confirmed Londonio’s release on Saturday (Philippine time), stating that an Immigration Court judge granted his attorney’s petition.
Londonio had been arrested by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport upon his return from a vacation in the Philippines due to a 2002 grand theft conviction.
The Consulate General actively monitored Londonio’s case, ensuring his rights were upheld and due process was followed.
Consulate representatives attended his hearing at the Northwest ICE Processing Center to provide support and observe the proceedings.
Londonio was reportedly tearfully reunited with his family upon his release. The Consulate expressed gratitude to Londonio’s legal team and community supporters for their assistance throughout his detention.
The IAM Local 2202 Union, of which Londonio is a member, also welcomed the court’s decision, having provided support throughout his legal battle. The successful termination of the deportation proceedings marks a positive outcome for Londonio and highlights the importance of consular support in navigating complex immigration cases.
