THE Philippine Embassy in New Delhi, which exercises jurisdiction over Nepal, confirmed on Friday that one Filipino national is indeed among those listed as missing following the devastating flash floods along the Nepal‑China border.

The confirmation came after the Nepal Tourism Board released an official list of persons unaccounted for, identifying one Filipino out of a total of 667 missing individuals representing 32 different countries. The scale of the disaster and the international composition of those affected underscore the severity of the calamity.

Despite the listing, the Embassy noted that the family of the missing Filipino has not yet contacted them to report the situation or seek assistance. Even so, diplomatic authorities stated they stand fully prepared to extend all necessary consular support and assistance to the family as soon as they are reached.

The Embassy has urged relatives or anyone with information about the missing national to come forward so they can coordinate with Nepalese authorities and begin the process of locating and accounting for the individual.

The flash floods have caused widespread destruction across affected border regions, sweeping away settlements, cutting off roads, and severing communication lines.

Rescue and recovery operations continue to face immense challenges due to the terrain and ongoing adverse weather conditions. As the Embassy works to verify details and establish direct contact with the missing national’s kin, the Department of Foreign Affairs has assured the public that it is closely monitoring the situation and will provide timely updates as more information becomes available.
