Family appeals for help as Filipino doctor missing in Nepal floods

Metrosundaily August 28, 2026

“PLEASE help us look for my brother.” This heartfelt appeal comes from the family of Dr. Juan Carlos Manalo, who has been reported missing in the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the border with China.

The Filipino doctor was on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash and has been completely out of contact since August 26, when the catastrophic disaster swept through the region. His last known location before the disaster was near the Gyirong Immigration Office, placing him directly in the area hardest hit by the calamity.

Dr. Manalo’s family is urgently seeking any information regarding his whereabouts as fears grow for his safety. The sudden loss of communication has deepened their anxiety, especially given the scale of destruction and the hundreds of people still unaccounted for across the affected border areas.

The family’s plea underscores the desperation of those waiting for news, hoping that someone — whether fellow pilgrims, travelers, or local authorities — may have seen him or can provide even the smallest detail that could help trace him.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Philippine officials stationed in New Delhi and Kathmandu are already coordinating closely with Nepalese authorities to verify reports and locate the missing doctor.

Officials are currently awaiting official confirmation from the Nepalese government regarding his status and whereabouts. As search and rescue operations continue amid difficult terrain and harsh conditions, the Philippine Embassy stands ready to provide full consular assistance and support to the family, while the appeal for public help remains urgent in the hope that Dr. Manalo will be found safe.
