THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended the driver’s license of vlogger Cherrylyn Larga Gonzaga, also known as Cherry White, for 90 days.
The suspension follows a viral video showing Ms. Gonzaga driving recklessly, a violation that prompted swift action from the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards irresponsible driving, stating that such behavior endangers commuters and pedestrians alike. The decision reflects President Marcos’ repeated directives to ensure road safety for all citizens.
The LTO issued a show cause order to Ms. Gonzaga, requiring her to explain why she should not face administrative charges for reckless driving and why her license should not be suspended or revoked.
The order cited the viral video, which depicted Ms. Gonzaga in a relaxed, inappropriate driving posture with one leg raised onto the driver’s seat, indicating a lack of focus on safe vehicle operation.
Ms. Gonzaga is scheduled to appear before the LTO on Wednesday, July 16, at 11 a.m. to address the allegations. Her vehicle has also been placed under alarm, preventing any transactions pending the investigation’s conclusion.
Secretary Dizon urged the public to continue reporting traffic violations to the DOTr or LTO. The swift action taken against Ms. Gonzaga serves as a strong warning against reckless driving and underscores the government’s commitment to improving road safety in the Philippines.
The case highlights the increasing use of social media to expose traffic violations and the government’s responsiveness to public concerns regarding road safety.
