THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver’s license of Rico Buyawan, the motorcycle rider who performed a dangerous “Superman” stunt on Marilaque Highway in Tanay, Rizal. Buyawan, who survived the viral crash, was deemed unfit to operate a motor vehicle after his reckless actions on a public road.
LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II stated that a driver’s license is a privilege, not a right, and comes with the responsibility of road safety. He warned motorists, especially motorcycle riders, against performing stunts on public roads, emphasizing the danger posed to others.
The video of the incident shows Buyawan and another rider attempting the stunt, resulting in a crash that injured six bystanders and damaged parked motorcycles. Police investigations revealed that one fatality involved did not possess a driver’s license. Buyawan was found guilty of reckless driving and unauthorized operation of a motor vehicle by the LTO Calabarzon, leading to the license revocation.
To prevent future accidents, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will increase its presence along with the Tanay Police. The HPG also warned of potential criminal charges for racing on Marilaque Highway, while the Tanay Police reported the town government is considering an ordinance to restrict bystanders along the road.
