TWO cases of mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) have been confirmed in Davao City, with one patient succumbing to complications, the local government unit (LGU) announced Friday.
The information was relayed to the Davao City Health Office (CHO) on Wednesday by the Department of Health Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.
Both patients were treated at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) isolation facility. The LGU statement expressed regret over the death of one patient, attributing it to complications arising from the mpox infection. No further details regarding the deceased patient were released.
The CHO is actively undertaking contact tracing and implementing established response measures and protocols for mpox, according to the LGU advisory.
Information on the number of close contacts identified and the measures taken to prevent further transmission remains limited at this time. The LGU did not provide any additional information regarding the surviving patient’s condition or prognosis.
The confirmation of these cases underscores the ongoing need for vigilance and adherence to public health guidelines to prevent the spread of mpox.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from the Davao City Health Office and the Department of Health.
