A fire broke out at the Antipolo Cathedral’s candle-lighting area on the morning of Black Saturday, April 19, 2025 temporarily suspending candle offerings.
According to a report by Super Radyo dzBB on X (formerly Twitter), the fire ignited around 7:00 a.m. in the candle station where devotees typically light candles as part of their prayers.
The fire was swiftly contained by responding authorities, resulting in no reported injuries or significant property damage. However, as a precautionary measure, cathedral officials have temporarily halted candle-lighting activities to allow for a thorough cleaning and inspection of the affected area. This was confirmed in a post by Super Radyo dzBB reporter Christian Mano on X.
The Antipolo Cathedral, officially designated as the National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, is a well-known pilgrimage site, attracting numerous devotees, particularly during Holy Week.
The temporary suspension of candle-lighting is expected to impact the usual flow of pilgrims, although the cathedral remains open for other religious activities. Further updates on the resumption of candle offerings will be provided by cathedral authorities in due course.
