THE Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Senator Rodante Marcoleta, will commence its investigation into alleged anomalous flood control projects on Tuesday, August 19, 2025.
Marcoleta acknowledged the daunting nature of the inquiry, given the multi-billion-peso scale of the projects and the complexity of unraveling the web of corruption within the public works system.
The senator stated that the probe will not only focus on the contractors involved but will also seek to uncover the public officials who are allegedly profiting from the substandard projects.
Marcoleta urged contractors to disclose how much they are giving to government officials to avoid being solely blamed.
He emphasized the suffering of entire communities due to destructive flooding caused by these projects and called on the public to assist in the Senate inquiry. President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. previously revealed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget for flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors.
Marcos also stated that the administration is investigating whether these contractors have links to sitting government executives and officials. In his last State of the Nation Address, the President vowed to hold those involved in anomalous flood control projects accountable.
