AKBAYAN Partylist Rep. Perci Cendaña, who endorsed the first and historic impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte in 2025, today joined other lawmakers in endorsing a new impeachment complaint against the Vice President. This complaint comes after the Supreme Court decided that the House of Representatives’ 2025 Articles of Impeachment against Duterte was barred by the one-year rule technicality.
Despite the earlier setback, Rep. Cendaña sees a new impeachment complaint against VP Sara reinvigorated by the recent wave of public outrage against corruption.
“Corruption is corruption whichever side of the former Uniteam it comes from. Dapat mapanagot ang mga sangkot sa malawakang pagnanakaw ng pera ng bayan whether it involves flood control funds or misuse of funds meant for our students,” according to Rep. Cendaña.
Rep. Cendaña also believed that should the House tackle the complaint, the evidence against VP Sara will eventually point to a much bigger conspiracy of abuse and corruption: “If the recent flood control corruption scandals show us anything, small-time corruption is always the tip of the iceberg of bigger corruption conspiracies. The same is true with the cases against VP Sara. Yung pagdodoktor niya ng mga resibo at pagbibigay ng cash gifts sa bidding committee ng DepEd are acts in support of committing greater acts of corruption.”
“No technicality or legal loophole will clear the VP of these charges. The VP must personally answer these cases of corruption and abuse of power. She has not escaped her day of reckoning, she has merely delayed it,” Rep. Cendaña concluded.
This new impeachment complaint was also endorsed by fellow lawmaker ML Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima before the House of Representatives Secretary General. The complaint was filed by different civil society personalities, religious leaders and representatives of youth groups.
