The suspect, identified as "Jona," a former Air Force member, was apprehended last Wednesday in Barangay Longos, Mataas na Kahoy.
A FORMER soldier was arrested in Batangas for allegedly extorting money from Philippine Air Force (PAF) applicants, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).
The suspect, identified as “Jona,” a former Air Force member, was apprehended last Wednesday in Barangay Longos, Mataas na Kahoy.
An Air Force applicant reported that Jona presented herself as an active member in charge of recruitment and guaranteed inclusion in the applicant list in exchange for P32,000, which the complainant sent to the suspect’s GCash account.
However, Jona allegedly demanded an additional P89,000 to secure a slot and purchase a uniform, raising the victim’s suspicion and prompting them to report the matter to the authorities.
The CIDG’s investigation confirmed that Jona was no longer affiliated with the Air Force and was not authorized to manage recruitment. Jona was taken into custody and charged with alleged estafa in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act, as well as usurpation of authority and robbery/extortion.
