Rep. Santos denies fake tarpaulins and black propaganda

admin September 29, 2025

LAS Piñas Rep. Mark Anthony Santos denied involvement in the posting of tarpaulins or signage bearing his name, which recently appeared in various parts of the city.

“Up to now, they still cannot accept their defeat in the May midterm elections. Their style is rotten—too obvious. Instead of resorting to mudslinging, they should focus on working for the people,” Santos said.

Over the weekend, tarpaulins suddenly appeared with the words “ROAD CLOSED” and “FOR DEMOLITION—CONGRESSMAN MARK ANTHONY SANTOS.” The lawmaker stressed that he would never use his mandate to cause fear or confusion among his constituents.

He further explained that he has no authority or mandate to close any private or public property without the consent of the owner or a court order.

“I also have no right to order the demolition of any business, subdivision, or shopping mall—unlike some of my wealthy political rivals who, despite the size of their businesses, have not been paying business taxes to the city for years,” Santos added.

According to Santos, these attacks are clearly part of a black propaganda campaign against him after newspapers and social media reports exposed the name of a contractor, a relative of a wealthy family, allegedly involved in billions worth of government projects, many of which were substandard.

He further remarked, “instead of wasting time trying to discredit me, they should prepare for the possible cases that the government may file against them for their involvement in anomalous flood control projects in the city over the past three years.”
