Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez administers the oath to the wife of slain Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo, and Dumaguete City Vice Mayor Ma. Isabel Sagarbarria as new members of Lakas-CMD during a simple ceremony held at the Social Hall of the Speaker’s Office in the House of Representatives Wednesday afternoon. Witnessing the event is Agusan del Norte 1st District Rep. Jose “Joboy” Aquino II.

THE wife of slain Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo, Pamplona Mayor Janice Degamo and 11 local chief executives, along with 12 other local officials and aspirants to public office yesterday formally joined the roster of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats.

Degamo, and the 23 other new Lakas-CMD members took their oath before Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez during a simple ceremony held at the Social Hall of the Office of the Speaker in the House of Representatives Wednesday afternoon.

In his brief message during the event, Speaker Romualdez welcomed his new party members and expressed his gratitude for their decision to join the biggest political party in the House and the country.

“Working together, we shall present a potent force in support of the Agenda for Prosperity of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and the realization of his vision for inclusive growth under a ‘Bagong Pilipinas,” said Speaker Romualdez.

Other local chief executives who took their oath before Speaker Romualdez include Cabadbaran City Mayor Judy C. Amante, Santiago Mayor Zenaida C. Lim, Jabonga Mayor Napoleon M. Montante, Kitcharao Mayor Jenry E. Montante, Tubay Mayor Kimmy L. Beray, R.T. Romualdez Mayor Richard P. Daquipil, Magallanes Mayor Cesar C. Cumba Jr., Las Nieves Mayor Karen S. Rosales, Nasipit Mayor Roscoe Democrito B. Plaza, Buenavista Mayor Joselito T. Roble, and Carmen Mayor Ramon M. Calo, all from the province of Agusan Del Norte.

Likewise, three Vice Mayors, namely Ma. Isabel L. Sagarbarria of Dumaguete City and Fernando N. Dolar and Jeasa C. Gonzales of Santa Monica and Pilar, Surigao del Norte respectively, along with Councilor Jerry D. Madera of Mainit town of the same province took their oath as new Lakas-CMD members.

Speaker Romualdez also swore in as new members of Lakas-CMD nine aspirants to local posts in various municipalities of the province of Surigao del Norte, namely Zita N. Biong (Tubod), Alvin A. Egay (Gigaquit), James N. Masuhay (Sison), Tessie Jean C. Nakao (Bacuag), Armen H. Catulay (Taganaan), Emmanuel S. Menil (San Benito), Emmanuel N. Arcena (Burgos), and Airmen O. Domiño (San Isidro).

The oathtaking of the 24 new party members came on the heels of a similar event Tuesday when Speaker Romualdez administered the oath as new Lakas-CMD members to two more lawmakers, along with 32 other incumbent and former officials and other politicians eyeing local posts in the May 2025 elections.

The affiliation of Reps. Ramon Nolasco Jr. of Cagayan’s 1st district and Maria Ysabel Zamora of the Lone district of San Juan City in Metro Manila on Tuesday expanded Lakas-CMD’s membership to 105, or more than one-third of the total number of members of the House of Representatives.
