Instead, the celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene will be done through a motorcade in selected areas of the City of Manila.
TO ensure public safety and security during the Traslacion for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno this Friday, the Philippine National Police in the National Capital Region (NCRPO) is requesting the implementation of a liquor ban and the temporary suspension of permits to carry firearms.
NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin announced during a press briefing on Monday that these requests have been formally lodged with the Manila city government and the PNP national headquarters.
Aberin explained that the NCRPO is seeking a liquor ban from the Manila city government to prevent any alcohol-related incidents during the religious event. Additionally, they have requested the PNP national headquarters to suspend the permit to carry firearms outside of residence (PTCFOR) from January 8 to January 10.
Beyond these measures, the NCRPO has also requested the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to implement signal disruptions in areas covered by the Traslacion procession, which carries the image of Jesus Christ from Quirino Grandstand back to Quiapo Church.
A no-fly zone over the concerned areas has also been requested from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP). The Traslacion commemorates the arrival of the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno (Our Lord Jesus the Nazarene) from Acapulco, Mexico in the 1600s and its subsequent transfer to Quiapo Church in 1767.
The PNP has previously announced that approximately 15,000 police officers will be deployed to secure the event.
