THE Philippine Embassy in Colombia has assured that all Filipinos residing in Venezuela are safe amidst the escalating tensions following the United States’ actions against the country and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.
Chargé d’Affaires Judy Razon stated that the embassy has been closely monitoring the situation of Filipinos in Venezuela since January 3 through a group chat with the Filipino community.
Razon confirmed that, according to reports from the Filipino community, all Filipinos in Venezuela are safe, unharmed, and residing in peaceful areas. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has recorded a total of 74 Filipinos currently residing in Venezuela.
The assurance comes after US President Donald Trump’s statement on Saturday that the US had captured Venezuela’s Maduro. Maduro has denied the accusations, claiming that Washington is intent on seizing control of Venezuela’s oil reserves.
The Philippine Embassy had previously advised Filipinos in Venezuela to remain alert, stay informed, and maintain a list of emergency contacts amidst the ongoing tensions.
