THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced on Monday, January 5, that the rehabilitation of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) busway is complete and has returned to normal operations.
DOTr Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez expressed his gratitude to Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, who spearheaded the rehabilitation efforts.
According to the DOTr, drivers and passengers noticed a “smoother ride” and “faster travel” along EDSA on Monday morning following the completion of the busway rehabilitation. Lopez also reminded the public that private vehicles are prohibited from using the bus lane.
The completion of the busway rehabilitation is the first milestone achieved in the overall P6-billion EDSA rehabilitation project, which began on December 24 and is expected to be completed in eight months.
The DOTr and DPWH conducted a joint inspection on December 9, walking along EDSA from Ayala Avenue to Roxas Boulevard to identify issues on the major thoroughfare, including lack of accessibility, impassable sidewalks, poor lighting on walkways, and road obstructions. Repairs on other parts of EDSA will continue from 10 PM to 4 AM starting Monday, according to the DOTr.
