THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has successfully dismantled a network involved in the distribution of counterfeit Korean skincare products, seizing an estimated ₱761,400 worth of fake items in simultaneous raids conducted in Manila and Bulacan. The operation targeted the widespread proliferation of imitation products bearing the popular “Beauty of Joseon” trademark.
The enforcement action was initiated after a formal complaint and request for investigation into the illicit distribution of counterfeit skincare products. Operatives from the NBI-National Capital Region (NBI-NCR), with support from the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD), executed search warrants on March 12, 2026. These warrants were served at several retail stores in Binondo, Manila, and a key distribution warehouse located in Marilao, Bulacan.
During the operation, authorities confiscated a total of 846 assorted counterfeit serum bottles bearing the “Beauty of Joseon” trademark. The estimated market value of these seized items amounts to ₱761,400. The NBI-IPRD is preparing to file criminal cases against the identified perpetrators and establishment owners for Trademark Infringement, citing violations of Section 155 in relation to Section 170 of Republic Act No. 8293, also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin A. Matibag emphasized the bureau’s commitment to protecting consumers from harmful and unauthorized goods. He stated, “Our priority is not only to protect the intellectual property rights of legitimate brands but, more importantly, to safeguard Filipino consumers from the health risks associated with fake cosmetics.” The NBI warned that counterfeit skincare products can contain dangerous, unregulated ingredients that may lead to severe health issues, including allergic reactions and chemical burns. Consumers are urged to exercise vigilance and purchase products only from authorized distributors to ensure their safety.
