THREE children — two of them siblings — were killed in a fire that swept through their home in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City on Thursday evening.
According to reports, the victims had been left unattended inside the house because their parents were away at work when the fire started. The tragedy has drawn renewed attention to the dangers of leaving young children unsupervised on residential premises.
The blaze broke out on the fourth floor of the building in Block 39 at approximately 7:00 p.m. Local residents rushed to help put out the flames but were unable to reach the children in time. When authorities gained access to the fourth‑floor room, they found the bodies of the two siblings, aged four and two, who had died at the scene. A seven‑year‑old girl, also a relative, was found outside the room with severe burns. She was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead on arrival.
Fire Inspector Bryan Acidre Pillula, Chief Operations Officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Mandaluyong, confirmed the grim outcome. “Two were found dead at the fire scene, while the third was brought to the hospital but also declared dead on arrival,” Pillula stated. The parents, who have yet to issue a public statement, are reportedly overcome with grief. Initial estimates place the damage to property at approximately ₱200,000. The BFP continues to investigate the exact cause of the fire, which was determined to have originated on the fourth floor.
