THE Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 98 has denied the motion filed by Vice President Sara Duterte to defer or recall the arrest warrant issued against her in connection with the grave threats case she is facing.
Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez confirmed the court’s ruling, stating that the judge found sufficient basis to proceed with the legal process.
“The court found probable cause to hold the accused for trial on all three counts of grave threats and ordered the issuance of a warrant of arrest,” Martinez explained.
This means the court has determined there is enough evidence to believe the offenses were committed and that the Vice President should stand trial for them. The denial clears the way for the warrant to remain in full force and effect.
The case stems from alleged threats purportedly made by the Vice President against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta‑Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez. With the motion to recall denied, Duterte is now expected to comply with the warrant and post the recommended bail to remain free while the trial proceeds.
