THE Philippine Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar is actively coordinating with local officials to confirm the identities of individuals rescued following last week’s devastating earthquake.
The embassy has dispatched a team to the affected area, where they have met with search and rescue personnel and representatives from the Mandalay General Hospital. Their primary focus is to identify individuals rescued from the rubble of the Sky Villa building, a structure that was significantly impacted by the earthquake.
Despite these efforts, the embassy reported that there is still no update regarding the fate of four Filipinos who remain unaccounted for.
“At this time, no positive identification has been made for any rescued persons or recovered cadavers in connection with the four Filipinos who are presumed in the rubble,” the embassy stated in a recent press release.
In addition to the identification efforts, the embassy team has met with 11 Filipinos who survived the collapse of the Sky Villa. These meetings are intended to gather more information and provide support to those affected by the tragedy.
The embassy emphasized its ongoing coordination with relevant authorities in Myanmar and its commitment to ascertaining the status of all Filipino nationals in the region. Search and retrieval operations continue in the aftermath of the earthquake, which has resulted in a significant loss of life and widespread devastation.
