Los Angeles, CA – A Filipino man was among those arrested in a large-scale immigration operation conducted by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) across Los Angeles, California, the Philippine Consulate General confirmed Tuesday.
Consul General Adelio Angelito Cruz reported that the 55-year-old Filipino, residing in Ontario, California, was apprehended at his home by ICE officials and a parole officer. The consulate has notified his family.
According to initial reports, the individual had prior convictions for theft and rape, leading the consulate to anticipate his deportation. The consulate is providing assistance.
The ICE operation, which began Friday, has sparked protests throughout Los Angeles.
Advocacy groups and immigration rights supporters are criticizing what they perceive as excessive and discriminatory enforcement.
Over 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines have been deployed to assist federal agents during the ongoing raids. Consul General Cruz stated that no Filipinos have participated in these protests.
