THAI authorities have filed assault charges against two Filipinos who were allegedly among those involved in a fight with their Thai counterparts in Bangkok on Monday, Thai media reported.
The Bangkok Post said the two Filipinos were taken to the Pathumwan district court, and the police would seek their detention while the investigation is ongoing.
The report quoted one of the Filipinos as apologizing and saying that there had been a misunderstanding due to the language barrier.
A Thai suspect was also arrested for assaulting a Filipino transgender, and was later released on bail.
The Filipino attacked by the Thai suspect did not want to press charges and preferred to settle the case with the assailant, according to a separate report from Thai PBS World.
The fight between the transgenders reportedly started with a dispute between three Filipinos and two Thais.
The matter escalated when 15 Filipinos and six Thais later confronted each other, leading to a brawl where Thais were injured and complained to the police.
Following this incident, Thai transgender gathered outside a hotel to wait for the Filipinos to return there. When police arrived to take two Filipinos, another brawl broke out, the Bangkok Post reported.
