THE controversial private resort located at the foot of the famed Chocolate Hills of Bohol announced Wednesday night that it was closing down its operations temporarily in compliance with orders of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
In an advisory posted on its Facebook page, the Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort Bohol said it would be temporarily closed for “maintenance and environmental preservation efforts.”
“During this closure, we will be implementing various eco-friendly initiatives to further enhance the sustainability of our resort. We are committed to upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship and ensuring the preservation of the natural beauty that surrounds us,” it added.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and support as we work toward a greener, more sustainable future for Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort,” it added.
A viral video of the resort caused outrage on social media, with many criticizing why a resort was allowed to operate at the iconic Bohol tourist site, a designated Unesco Geopark.
The resort earlier claimed it secured approval from government agencies, including the Protected Area Management Board which is regulated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
