TWO of three persons of interest in the death of 23-year-old Slovak tourist Michaela Mickova have been taken into custody, Philippine National Police (PNP) Public Information Office chief Police Colonel Randulf Tuaño announced Monday.
The arrests follow witness accounts from nine individuals, leading investigators to identify three persons of interest.
According to Col. Tuaño, the two individuals are currently being held by Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6). Both have prior criminal records, having been involved in illegal drug cases in 2024.
A medical examiner’s report indicates Mickova suffered blunt force trauma and sexual assault.
Mickova’s body was discovered in a state of decomposition, missing lower garments, in an abandoned chapel in Barangay Balabag, Malay town, Boracay Island, two days after she was reported missing.
PRO 6 has vowed a thorough investigation, stating, “We will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to justice.” They emphasized their commitment to providing justice for Mickova’s family and loved ones.
The Aklan Police Provincial Office confirmed that the Malay Municipal Police Station is leading the investigation, actively collecting evidence to determine the cause of death and identify any remaining suspects. Despite the incident, authorities assured the public that Boracay remains safe, with increased police presence and patrols implemented to maintain security.
The ongoing investigation underscores the commitment of local and national authorities to ensuring the safety of tourists in Boracay and bringing those responsible for Mickova’s death to account.
