TAAL Volcano in Batangas experienced a 10-hour and 30-minute volcanic tremor on Saturday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Sunday.
However, Phivolcs Director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol reported that the volcano appeared calmer on Sunday morning compared to recent days, with no phreatic or phreatomagmatic eruptions in the past 24 hours.
“We haven’t detected any volcanic earthquakes at Taal Volcano in the last 24 hours, and it remains at Alert Level 1,” Bacolcol stated in an interview.
Despite the current calm, Bacolcol emphasized that the possibility of a phreatic or phreatomagmatic eruption still exists.
As a precautionary measure, entry to Taal Volcano Island, designated as a Permanent Danger Zone, remains prohibited.
The volcanic tremor at Taal Volcano was caused by the movement of magma and gas pressure beneath the volcano. This movement can indicate the possibility of an eruption.
