INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla confirmed on Thursday, June 25, that authorities successfully foiled a planned violent attack targeting a school in Tolosa, Leyte.
Describing the threat as involving either a shooting or stabbing, Remulla said the quick response came following a tip-off, just days after the tragic incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
According to Remulla, the warning was raised around 8:00 p.m. the previous night, when Senator Bam Aquino contacted him to report circulating messages suggesting an impending mass assault.
One of the messages read: “Hello, send this to your friends. Yo, from Tolosa, prepare yourselves, especially you as you owe me. Get ready. I will disrupt the school. You won’t know me, but you will recognize me. There’s no time, no day. Be prepared for whoever gets shot or stabbed. We don’t care, good luck to you at Tolosa Leyte National High School.”
Acting immediately, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group launched an investigation to verify the claim and trace its source. Authorities were able to locate and identify the sender, who turned out to be a student enrolled at Tolosa National High School. The development underscores the need for continued vigilance, as officials work to ensure campuses remain secure and prevent further acts of violence amid growing concerns over school safety.
