POLICE shut down 15 illegal gun-making sites in Danao City, Cebu on Tuesday, arresting eight suspects and recovering a significant amount of firearm manufacturing equipment and parts, Police Regional Office 7 (PRO7) announced.
The operation, conducted by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 (RMFB7) and Danao City Police Station, followed nearly two months of intelligence gathering on illegal firearm production.
Authorities seized ten shanties used as workshops, along with ten lathe machines, unfinished pistols (including lower and upper receivers and barrels), a grinder, bench vice, welding machine, hacksaw, steel files, drill bits, sawdust, and assorted magazines. One suspect surrendered voluntarily.
PRO7 stated that the operation is part of a broader strategy to combat criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and terrorist organizations that rely on illicit gun factories.
PRO7 chief Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan emphasized the significance of the raid, stating, “The simultaneous dismantling of fifteen illegal gun-making sites reflects the intensity of our commitment to rid Central Visayas of deadly weapons.
These manufacturers fuel violence by supplying firearms to criminal gangs, drug syndicates, private armed groups, and even insurgents like the NPAs and terrorists.”
