A POLICE chief of San Miguel, Bulacan has been killed by armed men in an operation, Saturday night.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Serna was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
Reports said, Serna was shot by one of the men they were chasing along Barangay Buhol na Mangga around 9pm.
Bulacan Police Office provincial director Police Colonel Renie Arnedo said San Miguel Police received a report about a robbery incident in Barangay San Juan.
Serna, along with his men, conducted a follow-up operation where they saw two men onboard a motorcycle. One of the men pulled a gun and shot Serna in the head.
A 17-year old boy was also wounded, according to police report.
Meanwhile, a P1.2-million reward was put up on Sunday by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Bulacan local government for anyone who could provide information on the perpetrators behind the killing of the chief of police of San Miguel, Bulacan.
This came after Police Lieutenant Colonel Marlon Serna was shot in the head by unidentified gunmen in a police operation conducted in San Ildefonso, Bulacan on Saturday night.
Police Regional Office 3 Director Police Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr. said at least P300,000 of this amount would be coming from their office, P500,000 from DILG, and P200,000 from PNP.
Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, meanwhile, offered a P200,000 reward.
The two suspects who were alleged thieves were onboard a motorcycle when they fired shots and hit Serna.
The San Miguel Police that time were conducting a follow-up operation and investigation after receiving a report about a robbery incident in Barangay San Juan.
Hot pursuit operations are ongoing against the suspects who are still at large.
Hidalgo has tasked the Bulacan Provincial Police Office to conduct an investigation on the matter.
The PNP also committed to give assistance to the bereaved family of the victim.
