THE House of Representatives will investigate the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) following the incident involving the wrong remains of a deceased Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) in Kuwait.
The Makabayan bloc formally filed House Resolution (HR) 2213 on Monday, calling for the House committee on overseas workers affairs to conduct an investigation into the case of OFW Jenny Sanchez Alvarado.
Alvarado, along with two helpers employed by her employer in Kuwait, died on January 2, 2025, allegedly due to suffocation. On January 10, a body was repatriated to the Philippines. However, the family was devastated to discover that the remains they were mourning were those of a Nepalese colleague of the victim who had also died.
The resolution states, “The death of Jenny remains a shocking and confusing event for their family, and this has been exacerbated by the unexplained exchange of Jenny’s remains to that of another person.”
