THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) through the Philippine Embassy in Tripoli said no reports yet of Filipino casualty in the catastrophic storm that hit the eastern part of the state.
According to DFA records, there are an estimated 1,100 Filipinos in Eastern Libya. Of this number, 90 Filipinoes are residing in the areas badly hit by Storm Daniel.
Specifically, 30 of them reside in the district of Dema; 50 are in the district of Jabel al Akhdar; and 10 in Tobruk as of August 2023 record of the Embassy.
These Filipinos work mostly as nurses and clinical instructors. According to area coordinators, some of them were relocated to higher grounds by the management of the hospitals where they work while those who are nurses remain in hospitals for emergencies.
The Embassy said communication with these Filipinos remains difficult as electricity has not been restored in most areas.
Nevertheless, the DFA assured that members of the Embassy in Tripoli continue reaching out to Filipino community leaders in the affected areas and constantly monitor developments following the disaster.
