A HORRIFYING discovery shocked fishermen and residents in Araceli after a human arm was found inside the stomach of a shark they caught and were butchering.
According to a report released by the Palawan Police Provincial Office on Thursday, February 27, a fisherman reported finding the arm inside the shark’s stomach. The fisherman stated that he and his companions were fishing with hooks in the waters off Barangay Calandagan, Araceli, near Canaron Island, when they caught the 20-kilogram shark.
Upon reaching the port, they began butchering the shark to sell to waiting residents. It was during this process that the 12-inch human arm was discovered. The fishermen buried the arm to prevent it from decomposing.
On February 17, 2025, personnel from the Araceli Municipal Police Station and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office visited the barangay to take fingerprints from the arm, but it had already decomposed.
The Calandagan Barangay Council released a statement explaining their decision to initially withhold the incident from the public. They stated that they did so to avoid confusion and to allow authorities to properly handle the situation.
