ONE of Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal advisors in her petition to the Supreme Court to halt her impeachment trial is her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte. The petition, according to a copy, also includes her father-in-law, Atty. Lucas Carpio Jr., and lawyers from the Fortun, Narvasa, and Salazar Law Firm.
On February 18, VP Duterte filed a petition for certiorari and prohibition with a request for a temporary restraining order (TRO) and writ of preliminary injunction. In the petition, she asks the Supreme Court to prevent the Senate from proceeding with the impeachment trial and to invalidate the second impeachment complaint filed against her on February 5.
Her petition coincides with a separate petition filed by a group of lawyers from Mindanao, with the same goal of stopping the impeachment proceedings against VP Duterte.
