A THANKSGIVING celebration was held by Vice President Sara Duterte and her legal team following the Senate’s decision to archive the impeachment case filed against her.
According to a Facebook post by Davao City Councilor Luna Acosta, the celebration took place at an undisclosed restaurant. Acosta’s post, which included a photo of the gathering, described it as a “Thanksgiving celebration with VP Sara Duterte, the legal team and the petitioners who pushed for the dismissal of the impeachment.”
While celebrating the Senate’s action, Acosta acknowledged that the legal battle is not entirely over. The Vice President and her legal team are still required to file a comment on the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration before the Supreme Court (SC). This motion challenges the SC’s ruling that declared the impeachment complaint unconstitutional. Acosta expressed confidence in their legal arguments, stating, “But we are confident in our legal arguments and believe that due process and the rule of law remain supreme above all.”
The Senate’s decision to archive the case, an amendment to an initial proposal to dismiss it outright, passed with a vote of 19 in favor, 4 against, and 1 abstention. The celebration reflects the Vice President’s relief and the team’s satisfaction with this significant development in the case, although the legal process remains ongoing pending the Supreme Court’s final decision.
