PNP to dismiss officers over New Year’s gunfire

admin January 3, 2026

IN a stern response to New Year’s revelry violations, the Philippine National Police (PNP) is moving to dismiss four police officers who allegedly engaged in celebratory gunfire.

The PNP’s swift action underscores the government’s commitment to public safety and accountability.

The officers under investigation include a police master sergeant from Surigao del Sur, a police senior master sergeant in Iloilo, and patrolmen stationed in Parañaque City and Cagayan de Oro City.

Acting PNP chief PLt.Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered the immediate disarmament and detention of three of the officers, directing regional directors in Caraga, Western Visayas, and the National Capital Region to carry out the orders, according to a news release issued Friday.

Authorities are currently conducting a follow-up operation to apprehend the patrolman in Cagayan de Oro City, who remains at large.

“Once the investigation is completed and you are found liable, I will ensure that you are dismissed from the police service,” Nartatez Jr. stated firmly.

The PNP emphasized that this action is in direct response to the directive issued by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, mandating strict accountability for those who endanger public safety.
