THE House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III and House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos has rolled out a “rescue-buy” initiative to help farmers from the Cordillera mountains cope with plunging vegetable prices, oversupply, and rising fuel costs.

The activity is spearheaded by KM Ngayon Na Party-list Rep. Kenneth Paolo C. Tereng and is being held on May 19 and 20 at the North Wing Lobby of the House of Representatives, leading to the flagpole area.

Under the program, fresh cabbage is being sold for only P200 per 10 kilos or P20 per kilo to encourage lawmakers, House employees, and visitors to directly support local farmers while helping move excess produce that could otherwise go to waste.

Majority Leader Marcos said the initiative through the group of Tereng of KM Ngayon Na Party-list reflects the House leadership’s commitment to stand with farmers during difficult times.

“Our farmers work tirelessly to feed the nation, yet many of them suffer huge losses whenever prices collapse because of oversupply and high transport costs. This rescue-buy initiative is our simple but meaningful way of helping ease their burden,” Marcos made the statement in recognition of the significant contribution of Tereng’s group in helping farmers sell their harvests.

He stressed that the program goes beyond selling vegetables and serves as a concrete show of solidarity with the agriculture sector.

“Every kilo bought is direct support for the livelihood of our farmers. We hope this effort also raises awareness about the daily struggles faced by those who keep our food supply stable,” Marcos added.

Marcos also urged the public to continue supporting local agricultural products and initiatives that protect farmers from financial losses.

“Kapag tinulungan natin ang ating mga magsasaka, tinutulungan din natin ang food security ng bansa. Maliit man na hakbang ito, malaking bagay ito para sa ating mga kababayan sa sektor ng agrikultura,” he said.

The initiative carries the message: “Let’s stand with our farmers—buy cabbage, support their livelihood, and make a difference.”
