Akbayan’s Cendaña: SC rejection is go-signal for manhunt vs Dela Rosa

admin May 20, 2026

AKBAYAN Partylist Representative Perci Cendaña described the Supreme Court’s decision denying Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s plea for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant as a clear directive for authorities to act.

According to the lawmaker, the ruling removes legal barriers and serves as the official “go-signal” for law enforcement agencies to launch a full‑scale nationwide manhunt against Dela Rosa. Cendaña emphasized that no one, regardless of their position or influence, should be granted protection or refuge if they face serious allegations of human rights violations.

The Akbayan solon stressed that the decision upholds accountability and sends a strong message that the rule of law must prevail.

“There should be no safe quarters for those with blood of thousands on their hands,” Cendaña stated, referring to the allegations linking Dela Rosa to the controversial war on drugs campaign. He argued that the Supreme Court’s action validates the seriousness of the case and reinforces the government’s obligation to cooperate with international processes, ensuring that justice is pursued for the victims and their families.

In a strong warning, Cendaña added that accountability should not be limited to the subject of the warrant alone. Using the Filipino phrase “Kahit ang mga nagkakanlong sa mga pugante ay dapat mapanagot,” he clarified that anyone found sheltering, hiding, or providing assistance to the fugitive would also be held legally responsible. The statement underscores Akbayan’s position that the full force of the law must be applied equally—both to those accused of crimes and to those who attempt to shield them from facing justice.
