FORMER President Rodrigo Duterte has appealed to his successor, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to ensure a fair playing field in the upcoming May elections.
Speaking at the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino’s national coordination meeting in Davao City, Duterte expressed his hope that Marcos would provide equal opportunities for all candidates in the midterm elections.
“This coming election, I hope that the president, if he hears me, will give us, as I said, a fair shake, a fair fight. There will be no… he will not allow, like I did before, I was straightforward with the people, let’s not be afraid, let’s not resort to violence,” Duterte stated on Friday.
Both Duterte and Marcos have endorsed candidates running for the Senate, with Marcos aiming to secure 12 seats.
