DOTr gives bus companies 60-day deadline to upgrade terminals

admin May 30, 2025

THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) has issued a 60-day ultimatum to all bus companies nationwide to improve and upgrade their terminals.

Transport Secretary Vince Dizon announced that inspections will commence after a 30-day grace period, allowing companies time to begin necessary renovations and improvements. Failure to comply within the 60-day timeframe could result in terminal closures and further penalties.

This move follows the recent closure of several illegal bus terminals in Pasay City, signaling a broader effort by the DOTr to enhance safety and standards across the country’s bus transportation system.

The DOTr’s directive aims to address concerns regarding the condition and safety of various bus terminals. The 30-day grace period before inspections allows companies to prepare for the assessment, while the subsequent 60-day deadline provides ample time for necessary upgrades.

The potential for closure and additional penalties underscores the DOTr’s commitment to enforcing these standards.

The crackdown on substandard terminals reflects a broader strategy to improve the overall passenger experience and ensure safer travel conditions for commuters nationwide. Further details regarding specific requirements and the types of penalties that will be imposed are expected to be released by the DOTr in the coming weeks.
