THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will investigate reports that some BPO companies are allegedly forcing their employees to work despite the onslaught of Typhoon Uwan.
All regional directors have been instructed to verify reports against BPO companies that are allegedly forcing their employees to report to work.
According to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, the companies will be asked to explain why they are forcing workers to come to work despite the dangerous conditions. DOLE will not condone any action that endangers workers.
Laguesma also assured that the department prioritizes the safety and welfare of all workers in various industries, not just in the BPO sector.
Previously, the BPO Industry Employees Network or BIEN Pilipinas said that thousands of BPO workers are still being forced to come to work even in the midst of danger and despite flooding and power outages. Some workers are allegedly threatened with Notices to Explain, stripped of incentives, or forced to report onsite even if it is dangerous.
