BUREAU of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. announced his resignation Friday, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for courtesy resignations from Cabinet-level officials as part of a broader government restructuring.
Lumagui stated his full support for the President’s initiative, emphasizing his belief in Marcos’ commitment to “realign government with people’s expectations.”
He added, “This call for accountability shows the President’s commitment to establishing a government that serves the people.” His resignation, he explained, is intended to allow the President to freely evaluate his performance and further improve public service.
The announcement follows Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin’s announcement of recent Cabinet changes.
Significantly, Lumagui’s superior, Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, along with other key members of the economic team—Trade Secretary Cristina Roque, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman, and Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Frederick Go—have been retained by President Marcos.
In a statement, Lumagui expressed gratitude to President Marcos for his appointment and offered prayers for the President’s success in improving the lives of Filipinos.
