PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is expected to make swift decisions regarding the courtesy resignations submitted by members of his Cabinet, according to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro.
While Castro couldn’t provide a specific timeline in a recent interview, she emphasized the President’s desire for a speedy resolution: “I can’t give a timeline, but the President wants it fast. So, it should be fast. They can expect a quicker decision on this.”
Castro explained that the President’s decisions will be based on Cabinet members’ performance and the absence of corruption allegations.
“First of all, the President doesn’t want slowness. That’s what he complained about; he doesn’t want the administration’s work to be slow. At the same time, there are corruption issues. So that’s one factor.” She further clarified, “So performance, and the work of the Cabinet members must be clean; there should be no corruption.”
President Marcos recently called for the courtesy resignations from Cabinet secretaries as part of his plan to recalibrate the administration following the midterm elections.
“It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations. This is not business as usual. The people have spoken, and they expect results—not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” the President stated.
The request aims to allow the President to review the performance of each department and determine who will continue in their roles, aligning with the administration’s new priorities.
“This is not about personalities—it’s about performance, alignment, and urgency. Those who have delivered and continue to deliver will be recognized. But we cannot afford to be complacent. The time for comfort zones is over,” President Marcos added.
