THE Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) inability to explain how dismissed Bamban Mayor Alice Guo and her siblings evaded Philippine jurisdiction, months after a Senate investigation began, drew sharp criticism from Senator Risa Hontiveros during a Tuesday hearing.
The Senator expressed deep frustration at the government’s apparent inaction and lack of answers.
Senator Hontiveros highlighted the unacceptable four-month delay in identifying how the Guo siblings managed to leave the country undetected.
She pressed BI Intelligence Division chief Fortunato Manahan to confirm on the record that the BI remains unaware of their departure methods, a confirmation Manahan provided.
Senator Hontiveros expressed the Senate’s profound disappointment and emphasized that this shouldn’t be a complex mystery but a straightforward matter that should have been resolved long ago.
