PUBLIC Works Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed on Friday that arrests in the multibillion-peso flood control corruption scandal are expected within days, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for a swift crackdown.
Dizon, in a radio interview, stated that charges are being filed against several individuals, including former congressman Zaldy Co, the Discaya couple, and various Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, including those referred to as the “BGC Boys.” He noted that cases in Oriental Mindoro and Bulacan have already been filed before the Sandiganbayan.
Dizon emphasized that no one would be exempt from the investigation, regardless of their political affiliations or familial ties to the President, provided there is strong evidence against them.
In addition to the crackdown on corruption, Dizon announced that he will be inspecting Typhoon Uwan damage in Catanduanes and Baler and overseeing repairs to roads and bridges.
He also unveiled the nationwide rollout of Oplan Kontra Baha, a coordinated flood-mitigation program integrating government agencies and private initiatives. The next phase of the program is scheduled to take place in Cebu next week.
The government’s actions signal a dual approach to addressing the flood control issue: prosecuting those involved in corruption and implementing proactive measures to mitigate the impact of future floods.
