Akbayan Rep. Diokno condemns Supreme Court’s impeachment ruling

admin July 25, 2025

AKBAYAN Representative Chel Diokno released a statement expressing strong dissent regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Diokno asserted that the ruling represents a setback for accountability and the people’s right to demand transparency from their leaders.

He emphasized that the impeachment process adhered to constitutional requirements: the complaint was properly verified, endorsed by more than one-third of the House, and focused on a single set of charges against the Vice President. Diokno maintained that due process was followed, arguing that the process was aimed at bringing the truth to light for the Filipino people.

Despite the Supreme Court’s decision, Representative Diokno affirmed his commitment to pursuing accountability.

He vowed to continue working alongside civil society groups and reform-minded leaders to defend democratic principles and ensure that truth and justice prevail.

The statement underscores a determination to challenge what is viewed as an unjust outcome, highlighting the ongoing struggle for transparency and accountability within the political system. Diokno’s statement indicates a commitment to continued efforts to hold government officials accountable, regardless of the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“Kasama ang taumbayan, hindi tayo titigil manawagang panagutin ang dapat managot. We will continue to work with civil society and reform-minded leaders to defend our democracy and ensure that truth and justice prevail,” Diokno said. .
