A PORTION of the Katipunan Service Road southbound in Quezon City has been temporarily closed after an electronic billboard attached to a condominium building collapsed amid strong winds from Super Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-wong), injuring two people.
In an advisory on Monday, November 11, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said the section from Xavierville Avenue to the Aurora Boulevard intersection has been closed to motorists.
According to initial reports, a side panel of the billboard fell onto the service road at around 9 a.m., injuring two individuals. Emergency responders immediately assisted the victims and cordoned off the area to prevent further incidents.
Vehicles traveling along Katipunan southbound are being rerouted through Xavierville Avenue or the Katipunan flyover, the MMDA said. Motorists bound for Marcos Highway are advised to make a U-turn along Katipunan before reaching B. Serrano Avenue.
The agency said it is coordinating with the Quezon City government, which is conducting clearing and inspection operations to ensure the area’s safety before reopening the road. As of 11 a.m., state weather bureau PAGASA placed Metro Manila under Signal No. 1.
