A FIRE broke out early Saturday morning in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City, marking at least the third major blaze to hit Metro Manila since Friday night.
The fire originated near the rear of Nueve de Febrero Elementary School. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) raised a third alarm, signaling the need for increased firefighting resources to combat the rapidly spreading flames. Firefighters and volunteers faced challenges accessing the affected area due to the close proximity of densely packed residential dwellings.
The Mandaluyong fire follows two other significant incidents in Pasig and Manila. A warehouse fire in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City, which began Friday night, was declared under control at approximately 6:38 a.m. Saturday, after nearly eleven hours of firefighting efforts. Another fire, reported in the Sta. Mesa district of Manila, approximately three hours after the Pasig fire was contained, affected a residential area but was quickly brought under control with no immediate reports of casualties.
The series of fires highlights potential challenges related to fire safety and response in densely populated areas of Metro Manila.
The close proximity of buildings in many residential areas presents difficulties for firefighters in accessing and containing blazes, potentially leading to more extensive damage.
Further investigation is needed to determine the causes of these fires and to assess the extent of the damage and any casualties. The incidents also raise concerns about the preparedness of communities and emergency response systems in dealing with multiple simultaneous fire incidents.
