Despite battling the flu in recent days, Son continued to cover pre-Traslacion events, including the “Pahalik.”
Jose Torres Jr., Executive Director of PTFOMS, expressed his condolences in a statement: “We at the Presidential Task Force on Media Security extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Itoh Son.”
Torres Jr. praised Son’s dedication: “His dedication to his profession despite his illness is a testament to his love for his work and for delivering important events to the public. His invaluable service in the field of photojournalism will serve as an inspiration to others.”
The PTFOMS statement also served as a reminder to all media workers to be vigilant about their health and safety while performing their duties. “In the midst of intense dedication, do not forget the importance of self-care in order to continue serving with caution and compassion for others,” the statement read.
Itoh Son’s contributions to photojournalism will be remembered, and his passing serves as a reminder of the dedication and sacrifices made by media professionals.
