A LANDFILL in Barangay Binaliw collapsed on Thursday, January 8, resulting in five people being hospitalized. The incident prompted immediate emergency response efforts, with retrieval operations currently underway.
Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairperson of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC), reported that as of 7 p.m., five patients had been transported from the scene. One patient was found unresponsive and taken to North General Hospital, while the other four were transported to Visayas Community.
Councilor Joel Garganera confirmed that the landfill collapsed at approximately 5 p.m., prompting emergency responders to immediately proceed to the area. The cause of the collapse is currently under investigation, and authorities are working to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding communities. The extent of the damage and the potential for further casualties are still being assessed.
