A young girl is being rescued by firemen from the burning building.
A SENIOR citizen died in a fire that hit Kalayaan Talipapa Market in Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City before dawn on Sunday.
Mely Mensas, 76, was trapped inside a church located at the upper floor of the market, said Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Senior Inspector Eduardo Labrador.
According to a report by Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB, a young girl meanwhile was rescued by firemen from the burning building.
The firemen had difficulty in rescuing her because aside from the young girl being unconscious, they had to lift and transfer her to the building next to the market to evacuate her.
The young girl has been brought to a hospital for treatment.
The fire started at around 4 a.m. at the church, reached the second alarm, and was put out at 6:03 a.m.
The BFP is still investigating to determine the possible cause of the fire and the estimated cost of damage.
