A MAN who pretended to be a fashion model agent and tried to extort money from a minor after making him send nude photos has been arrested in Malabon City.
He will face charges of child sexual abuse, according to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG).
In a news report, PNP-ACG director Sidney Hernia urged the public to be wary of social media users posing as fashion model agents as they might only be looking for prospective victims to exploit
He cited the case of the unnamed man who allegedly sent a message to the victim telling her she had the face and figure to be a model and tricked the minor into sending nudes, which the suspect later used to blackmail the victim.
The suspect tried to force a meeting with the girl and to extort a large sum, prompting the victim to inform her parents and report the matter to the police, Hernia said.
“If your child experiences online abuse, take immediate action to protect them,” the official said.
“Remember, your child’s safety comes first, and by offering support, you can help them recover from the ordeal of harassment and teach them how to stay safe online,” Hernia added.
The suspect was arrested in an entrapment on April 4 in Malabon City, the report added.
Among the cases he is facing are violations of the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials.
The suspect will also be charged with grave coercion in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
