THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has announced that the comprehensive rehabilitation of EDSA, Metro Manila’s most congested highway, is scheduled to commence on December 24.
DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed the timeline, emphasizing the government’s commitment to improving the structural integrity and overall condition of the vital thoroughfare. The project aims to address long-standing issues such as potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate drainage, which contribute to traffic congestion and safety hazards.
The rehabilitation project is expected to span eight months, during which significant portions of EDSA will undergo extensive repairs and upgrades.
The DPWH has assured the public that measures will be implemented to minimize traffic disruptions during the construction period. These include phased construction, nighttime work, and the deployment of traffic management personnel to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow. The agency is also coordinating with other government agencies and stakeholders to develop alternative routes and transportation options for commuters.
Secretary Dizon acknowledged the potential inconvenience caused by the rehabilitation project but emphasized the long-term benefits for Metro Manila residents and the economy.
He appealed for public understanding and cooperation, highlighting the project’s importance in enhancing road safety, reducing traffic congestion, and improving the overall commuting experience on EDSA. The DPWH is committed to completing the project within the specified timeframe and delivering a significantly improved EDSA for the benefit of all.
